When we were in Augusta we had the opportunity to participate in the Eco Explorers event which allowed us to become "scientists for a day." We strapped on waders, hopped in the swamped, explored bugs and water samples under microscopes, and learned all about the area. It felt like being a kid on a school field trip again, and we would highly recommend trying to join in on this two hour expedition while you're in Augusta! While visiting the swamp is free, the Eco Explorers experience is $25 per person.

Engage with nature at the renowned F.A.T.S. (Forks Area Trail System), a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts in Augusta, Georgia. This well-maintained network with 37 miles of trails is ideal for mountain biking, trail running, or a leisurely walk. The trails wind through the serene forest, offering beautiful scenery and a tranquil environment perfect for a day of outdoor adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed our time running on the F.A.T.S. trails when we were visiting Augusta! It was the perfect break in all the delicious food eating we did while in town.
Safety Note: During the first two weeks of deer gun season (mid –October) it is recommended that trail users ride in the afternoon. It is also recommended that riders wear hunter safety blaze orange during the entire rifle season for personal safety. The same applies for turkey season in the spring (April).
